Professor KARURANGA Egide was appointed as a new Vice-Chancellor of UNIK effective from October 5, 2017 replacing Prof. Silas LWAKABAMBA.
Today October 5th, 2017 handover ceremony, Father Oreste Inshimatata explained that Prof. KARURANGA was appointed due to his excellent teaching, research publication records and leadership skills.
The outgoing Vice Chancellor, Professor Silas LWAKABAMBA commended the new vice chancellor and promise to remain a member of UNIK community and being a good ambassador of the university.
Professor Karuranga vows to continue making UNIK community based solution provider.

He promised to improve the quality of education. Quality lecturers, quality students, quality research, consultancy and community services will be among his priority in four first years of his term.
Professor KARURANGA Egide served in the senior positions in academics as well as non-governmental organizations in Rwanda, USA and in Canada.
He served as a Researcher at IT IS Laval university, Laval Internship supervisor, Professor in the Management and Marketing department Virginia State University from August 2006 to January 2008. He has been an Associate Professor at Laval University School of Business, Canada until 2016. He has published empirical research at international level in areas of Business intelligence, International Human resource Management, MBA level and Strategic management.
In terms of leadership, he served as Chairman of the Rwandan Diaspora of Canada from November 2011 to January 2015. CEO Telesystems SARL Kigali from 1995 to 2000 ,CEO Top Systems SARL from 1991-1994 ,Chief Internal Auditor Trafipro from 1989 to 1990. He is also the Co-founder of Ibuka education organization.
Professor Egide is the 5th Vice chancellor of UNIK from its foundation in 2003. UNIK is a unique community university in Rwanda which aims at improving socio-economic life of people through teaching, research, consultancy, and community outreach.
